TeenPeople magazine awarded their Artists of Year last night November 14, 02004 at the Key Club in Los Angeles, CA, to Usher, Ashlee Simpson, and Kanye West. The celebrity-studded event showcased the new generation of rap artists and actors, including Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson, and a short, but powerful performance from Kanye West.

In typical bling-bling fashion, Kanye arrived in a white suit with an entourage dressed in black and took to the stage as soon as the awards were completed, performing a short set from his much hyped LP The College Dropout on Roc-A-Fella Records.

Ashlee Simpson (the younger sister of Jessica Simpson), took the stage for her award saying “Thank you very much for this award—I’m very surprised and grateful.”

To complete the night, purple gift bags were handed out from TeenPeople including a copy of the latest issue, T-shirts from SouthPole, Maybelline lipstick and eye shadow, and “The Urbz—Sims in the City” video game from PlayStation 2.
