Swarovski crystals are well-known as the leader in cut crystal having adorned some of the world’s top designers such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Prada, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Viktor and Rolf. However on display at Bread & Butter in the Luna Park area July 4-6 in Barcelona, the brand presented a unique exhibition of Swarovski crystals used in various designs in streetwear, including T-shirt graphics, sneakers, high-waisted denim jeans, accessories, and even paintings.
The concept was to evoke a sense of possibility and imagination of just how special designing with crystals can make a piece of apparel or footwear. The shiny, glittering crystals in a variety of colors added not so much a bling-factor to the garments, but radiance and light that made each piece more unique than on its own.
The Crystallized Elements show allowed people to walk through a white gallery space and view not only how Swarovski crystals were used in a variety of patterns, but the displays themselves would sometime be hung in unique angles, such as in a corner or above eye-level, or in a box, to enhance the fact that various interpretations of design with crystals is multi-dimensional.
While designers in streetwear often use art and graffiti to draw inspiration from in terms of graphics and style, as well as various washes, dyes, and stitch patterns, the use of crystals may not be far off as more people turn to different ways of accessorizing and individualizing with color towards achieving their sense of style.
