Animal prints have leapt past floral, gingham, and plaids among American youth culture as the mash-up patterns in this cross-over fashion season, as seen during the multi-city, two month Vans Warped Tour. Ranging from leopard prints, graphics of animals, tiger stripes, and animal motifs—including a subcult of elephants as patterns and elephant necklaces and various charms—animal patterns indicate fun and direction that’s being taken to new heights among this DIY generation.
As Label Networks’ Warped reporter Lisa Solimeo explains, "I've seen a couple elephant charms, but not as many as I expected in some areas. It appears to be more of a New York thing. I thought elephants would be the next big animal across the country, like sparrows were last year," but it remains more like a subculture for now. What this means is that elephants may be on the horizon.
For streetwear fashion, clearly it’s a jungle out there:
