In the last 2 seasons that we’ve been tracking Beautiful Society, a cousin team of streetwear designers out of Southern California, their collection continues to astound us in its breadth of meaning, style, iconography towards life, and very cool technical solar “processes” that literally give new light and color to graphics and textures.

Randy and Stefen first introduced us to their brand in a Label Networks TV interview last Fall at Agenda, which also included a collaboration project they were doing with The Candy Shop in Hartford, CT. In that collection, their caps had a solar process that made their logo type and bonsai tree graphic glow in the dark after being worn outside.

At the United Trade Show in New York last month, key pieces included their traditional bonsai tree logo placed in carefully planned locations on caps and T’s, plus beautiful text and patterns that represented a Yin/Yang approach to their lifestyles. As Randy explained, “We are influenced by martial arts and have this aesthetic in our designs. We’re more than creating apparel and caps, but we’re a society, we are a group of people that believe in expressing opinions and literary statements in our collection. We could be a movie, a book—there’s no stopping where our lifestyle of a Beautiful Society is going.”

Unlike other websites explaining a particular collection, Beautiful Society starts out with a section to “the Society” of creative minds that appreciate life and gain inspiration from graffiti, music, poetry, politics, and photography.

Representing a unique angle of streetwear, the Beautiful Society guys are also known for their hustle—hard-working, young, energetic—and their lifestyle is clearly their passion which goes into all of their plans. T-shirts with faces carved in motifs to create symbols, bright colors with black type, fish, flowers, camo in black and grey, and human figures arranged in creative patterns, make their recent collection resonant.

Next up for the brand is a collection called Ugly Society. “Taking a darker look at design,” and as the brothers explain, providing a balance to the beauty of life through expressing the darkness, which to them will still includes solar techniques of literally taking light into dark.
