Fashion X Religion: Designs, Brands, Bands, and Action Sports Movements Inspired from a Higher Power Among Growing Subculture Redefining the Street Fashion, Sports, and Music Industries

By Kathleen Gasperini

In the last few years, there’s been a growing movement in street fashion and youth culture lifestyles towards using religion or religious themes not only in T-shirt graphic designs, but also as the foundation for creating brands, magazines, bands, and action sports movements. Quasi-Christian streetwear brands, including some tied with action sports  and sponsored athletes are on the rise, as well as emo-Christian punk bands and their corresponding band merch.

In our feature story on Fashion and Religion, we take a look not only at various fashion brands inspired by religion, but also fresh designs capturing the attention of the marketplace, including the crossover into action sports. The story also includes the influences in crossover from music and religious-inspired bands on the rise, ranging from emo, screamo, or hardcore metal bands with the most power influencing the movement through lyrics and merch.

However when it comes to the paradox of fashion and religion, there are other aspects adding fuel to the fire, including environmentalism, the growing philanthropic movement among youth culture, and of course, major influences from news from the Middle East that are impacting not only fashion trends, but giving rise to magazines and websites covering the spiritual side of pop culture. Finally, we add data about how young people feel about religion and the changing concept of what it means to be “religious” today: Fashion X Religion: Designs, Brands, Bands, and Action Sports Movements Inspired from a Higher Power Among Growing Subculture Redefining the Street Fashion, Sports, and Music Industries—for Premium Subscribers Only.
