LA’s Fast Eddie Provides Insight on the Crossover of Car Culture + Greaser/Mechanic, Rock-a-billy Streetwear Fashion

There’s a growing subculture within the car culture that takes its lead not from dub per se, but rather from a technical and mechanical background based on the appreciation of design of core automotive trends such as Hot Rod’s. In an exclusive interview with Label  Networks TV, Fast Eddie from Fast Eddie’s Garage talks about influences and trends in the crossover between auto and streetwear fashion, including greaser, mechanic, rockabilly styles and the influences car culture has on a growing number of people stoked on their rides.

As Eddie explains, there’s a generation that grew up influenced by TV shows where the cars where as much a character as the actors, including Knight Rider, the A-Team, Dukes of Hazard, and even Miami Vice. Mixed with the sign of the times when youth culture styles include more than one look and inspiration, Fast Edddie’s shop brings together people interested in core car mechanics, as well as streetwear style with apparel that represents car culture. He also has hosted a successful event called “Taillights and Tire Smoke” based on his collective’s work including designers of fashion, mechanical, and Hot Rod designers. As Eddie explains, the concept is to show the background of a new movement, which like his, comes from automotive inspiration. Fast Eddie has a degree from the Art Center in Los Angeles for transportation design, which he combines also with streetwear style.

Here’s the inside story from Fast Eddie on the inspiration behind car culture and the streetwear crossover that’s gaining momentum, particularly on the West Coast today.
