JB Classics Sneakers Present a Chrome-Plated Design called the Chromeo, plus Announce Collab with Kid Robot + Artist Tilt

By Kathleen Gasperini

JB Classics were among a group of up-and-coming sneaker brands that were making heads turn at Bread & Butter in Barcelona July 4-6 in the Sports & Style Hall mainly with the debut of their shiny chrome kicks. While at first, the design looks like car-culture-meets-sneaker-culture, the “Chromeo” was actually inspired by female designer Mdot and her background in architecture and building design. In an interview with Label Networks, designer Mdot talked about her experience which actually comes from furniture, building, industrial architecture which translated into kicks that “were the Chromeo, which is a pretty interesting metal sneaker.”

“I fell into designing sneakers even though that wasn’t my original background,” explained Mdot. She started moving into sneaker design after meeting up with founder Jason Bass in 02004 in San Francisco. As they explain, their sneakers are collectible because they’re “walking journals of travel and inspiration.” JB Classics are known for not only different materials in design, but also incorporating vibrant colors. The brand also creates cool toys as part of their overall collection.

Also featured at the show for the first time were the Green Hexells in patterned graphics and different shades of vibrant green. Next up is their 2nd collective project with Kid Robot and collaboration with artist Tilt called the JB Classics Peddler Model to be released in August. Materials include a full-grain tumble leather toe cap, mesh quarters, contrast stitching on perforated leather linking and heel tab accents designed with artwork by Tilt. The jams come in colors black, lime, tru-blue, and with an extra set of black laces.
