Victoria Cupcakes of KSK broke it down to us at the first United Trade Show in New York last month about the up-and-coming T-shirt line that’s bringing attention to the New York City rave, electro, and DJ scenes. “It’s grittier in New York than say, Europe or Los Angeles,” explains Cupcakes. “We have parties and it’s a different version than other cities—it’s an original DJ scene that’s reflected in our T-shirts. This line is a part of our culture, our scene.”
Friends of Greg from Mishka NYC, who actually first recommended we talk to KSK and who is also a pillar in this Brooklyn scene also thinks KSK is an important part of the music movement. KSK which started maybe 6 months ago in terms of apparel, already has a cult following among electro DJ’s and rave-sters. Their use of pink, black, white, and oversized graphics with statements such as Trouble ‘n Bass, I’m So [heart] NYC, I’ll Bass You, and Kill Your Local Rock DJ shirts speak to an important subculture of people who get it. It’s one of those brands that is borne from a strong, localized scene, and is quickly getting adopted by others who have a similar music culture in their own city. There’s more to come from this KSK, as seen also at their booth at United Las Vegas last week. Stay tuned for the Label Networks TV interview to come.
