While last summer hair accessories were all about wide headbands, scarves, and bandanas, the latest evolution in hairpieces are thin rope hair-bands that in many cases don’t keep one’s hair out but simply ties it in place. The look is a play off of the Bjorn Borg tennis look of the late ‘70’s with pulled up tube socks, tennis shorts and white polo shirts, and terry cloth wrist bands. But with the tiny rope headband, you can basically forgo the tennis look and go with dresses, denim shorts, and skirts but keep a retro vibe with a contemporary twist with the rope-band in your hair.
This is not to say that wide headbands and bandanas are no longer in, but rather, there’s a new headpiece that’s making summer hairstyles just that more stylish. Often the thin rope bands are worn over hair like a crown that keeps hair from flying around, even matted.
The look, while coming from the retro tennis vibe, does have the advantage of moving into a contemporary theme of long, ropey necklaces in the future and mixing up a flapper’s sort of theme that’s also street-savvy.
