undefinedWhat makes the most unique boutique openings are celebrations of retail design, brands, and people that provide insight into new directions in streetwear, which is why the United Los Angeles opening Monday, June 4th, was an important occasion. United Los Angeles is the boutique store concept created by the founders of United Trade Show that, like a select art gallery, introduces a mix of rare, select pieces but in fashion such as denim jeans from Yamane in Japan, as well as one-of-kind creations from artists such as Jason “O” and his hand-painted T-shirts. In addition, the store features lifestyle creations such as toys, games, jewelry, Japanese sandals, candy, condoms, a relationship with Gingko Press resulting an excellent selection of cool books, and an engraving machine as part of iStyleCustom which features custom engraving on iPods.

United guys Rama Mayo, Ryan Walker, and Casper Adams brought in the expertise of Jahream in the creation and of United Los Angeles store which guaranteed a unique selection of Japanese brands that will soon be the hype in America. Jahream is also the man behind the specialty boutique Blue in Green in Soho and has a rich history for introducing new denim brands and fresh streetwear from coveted locations around the world, particularly Tokyo. For example, on display is a one-of-kind pair of selvedged denim jeans with a painted “U” on the pockets that Jahream brought in from Yamane’s private label—the man behind Evisu. In addition, the store features Product, another Japanese line that includes all-over print jackets in a mix of rave colors, characters, camo, and patches, plus Product denim, and caps. Tucked into the retail corners one can find black painted Wranglers rarely found in most jean boutiques, white, un-dyed denim with silver threading and matching white button-down jacket with wide lapels from SMO, Mad Foot sneakers in graffiti-inspired designs, and women’s streetwear products such as Born Uniquorn. Other product introductions include Free Gold Watch, Afterbase, jewelry by Bijules NYC, Cipher, Copy, Easy Job, Game 2 Games, Leroy Jenkins hoodies and Estate caps, Official caps, Mackdaddy, Name Ribbon, Quiet Life, Stacks and Bundles, and collectibles such as prescription drug earrings by Miz.

Jahream describes the vision of United Los Angeles as a taste of something unique intended for people looking for inspiration that rises above current trends. The former stylist has traveled the world and believes that today, “Artists use a different type of canvas such as a T-shirt. And the people who feel it, will be rockin’ it too.” As Jahream describes streetwear today, “We are all looking for inspiration but people from different places look at it from different angles such as London has a different version than Japan.” He also notes that today’s fashion trends are coming from the bottom-up—from people who started with nothing and out of this, grind hard to find something that represents them. “There’s a different kind appreciation that comes with this,” says Jahream. And that’s the difference in what’s going on today in fashion and why stores such as United Los Angeles represent more than brands by encompassing the passion of a lifestyle.
