Fall Out Boy, the pop-punk/emo-influenced quartet out of the ‘burbs of Chicago that became a double platinum-selling band in 02005 with their album “From Under the Cork Tree” mostly via their own promotions on their MySpace page, made history not only because of their music sales, but because of how they became successful in youth culture. Like many underground bands in 02004-05, the years of the first MySpace music phenoms, Fall Out Boy proved that you can become big on your own through the viral hype of social online networks.
Fall Out Boy was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy’s in 02006 and their soundtrack was featured on Tony Hawk’s video game, “American Wasteland” which was ingeniously promoted by Activision via a MySpace video (now on YouTube). Their new album “Infinity on High” sticks to its punk roots, but adds some hip-hop and R&B with guest appearances by Jay-Z, plus guitar solos by Panic! At the Disco’s Ryan Ross and New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert. The title “Infinity on High” was inspired by a letter Vincent Van Gogh wrote to his brother.
Fall Out Boy is doing several radio spots during the holiday season to promote their new album and playing in select clubs. The album will be released February 6th on Island Records.
