GoodSearch.com is a search engine for cause that every time you use it, the charity that’s connected with it receives a small income. Basically, if 10,000 people search 4 times a day on average, which is what we already do, the organization will raise more than $140,000 in a year. Unite the United, a charitable organization started by Kevin Lyman and Laura Murphy and the Vans Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos has set a goal of raising $10,000 by the end of the Vans Warped Tour through GoodSearch.com. And on July 31, GoodSearch.com will actually be featured on the tour as the Charity of the Day.
Unite the United formed just after the Gulf Coast hurricanes hit in 2005. Kevin, Laura, and many others in the music industry wanted to do something to involve their community of artists, friends and colleagues in fundraising and raising social awareness.
They began by collecting donated instruments, music memorabilia, autographed items, sports apparel, basically anything that they could get from the bands, managers, record labels and lifestyle companies that they worked with. After a self-taught crash course in how to use eBay, they began listing everything for sale on their Unite the United charity auction. What had started out as a five week charity auction is now still running and bigger than ever. (www.unitetheunited.com)
Between the Vans Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos and Unite the United, so far almost a half million dollars have been donated to charity.
The Vans Warped Tour is known for their large non-profit area at each festival, including Keep-a-Breast, PETA, the Truth, plus many local charities that join up at different venues as the tour crosses the country. The tour also has major green initiatives using recycled catering supplies and collects plastic bottles at each venue, as well as uses biodiesel tour buses.
The GoodSearch.com campaign is the latest program of Unite the United as the tour continues through August 25th ending in Los Angeles.
