Known as payola, the FCC in the past has not had such schemes high on the radar, but this move, along with another from the American Association of Independent Music, may just make free airtime available to independent record labels and local artists. If the FCC crackdown and AAIM campaign works, we can expect to hear a greater variety of music on the radio, which will also affect cultural trends in the near future.
