There’s nothing new about the fact that fashion and music are integrally tied components with each inspiring the other, however at MAGIC, when you see all of these players in the trade show hallways supporting their brands and collaborations, it’s apparent that in knowing where streetwear trends are headed, it’s important to know what’s going on in music…and vice versa. In the South Hall, this specifically centers around rap, Hip-Hop, and R&B scenes, except for specific genres such as KISS’ Gene Simmons and his new line Moneybag, or Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and his Famous Stars and Straps—which was one of the most happening booths representing car and moto-inspired-fashion.

Russell Simmons stopped in to check on his Phat Farm line, which we did not shoot, however we did snap 50 Cent in the halls on his way to represent his collaboration with Mark Ecko and the G-Unit collection, and Nelly outside his booth for Apple Bottom. We also captured Travis because Famous was right next to the Label Lab Exhibition. Best of all of course was that we mastered live interviews with Label Networks TV (to be posted in the near future) with Grandmaster Caz, Omarion, DJ Nick Cannon, Akon, and Blacksmith. Grandmaster Caz supports the old-school brand of Sedwick & Cedar, while Omarion is tight with Christopher Brian Apparel which premiered their collection at the show. Christopher Brian is the fashion brand from Christopher Stokes, who has also managed Omarion, Marques Houston, and Brandy.

Nick Cannon scored massive props and fans from spinning all day at his booth PNB (Post No Bills), an old-school brand revitalized under his leadership, and Akon walked smack into our interview with Mighty Crown’s 9 Rulaz Line to give props to one of his favorite brands from Japan.
