Origami-Designed Memory Sticks the Next Step in the Highly-Accessorized Japanese Portable Electronic Movement

By Fuji Tamoki

It’s not just blinged-out mobile phones with Swarovski crystals that are among the hot items in youth culture in Japan any longer, but now also artistically designed USB memory sticks. Handcrafted in Okinawa, these gold-emblazed, lacquered beauties with artistic interpretations of the craft of origami are a big hit among the Laptop-toting internet café scene.

Designed by Origami called the Ryukyu Lacquerware USB style, these memory sticks come with excellent packaging (of course) in neat wooden boxes. In many ways, like the growing popularity of Japanese streetwear designers, denim, and the burgeoning music scene by Japanese artists, the memory-stick artwork is a small technological direction pointing to the rising pride of Japanmovement in youth culture.
