Bread & Butter trade show in Berlin launched with a perfect opening night theme for their Absolute show on January 19th with a Cotton Club style evening, featuring the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and attendees dressed in gangster, gigolo, dandy and Diane Lane diva flasher styles.

Running from January 19-21, 2011, Bread & Butter is one of the most anticipated fashion trade shows in the world. One reason is because of its carefully selected brands in denim, street and sports styles, upper-streetwear, urban, and leading-edge contemporary. The show provides a connection between North America and Europe, but also Eastern Europe, Russia, and a growing contingent from Japan, China, and South America.

It’s also become the premiere platform for networking and getting inspired -not only from the exhibitors and various booths, but the people who attend, who are usually among the leading-edge fashion players in the world. People-watching for latest trends in design, personal style, and particularly in denim, is at its greatest here. The show always includes elements of entertainment and surprises, including events each day and night, unique runway shows, such as G-star’s ever-popular performances, and this year, a live boxing match featuring IBO Youth World Champ Welterweights, Muller vs. Nestor. The show also never forgets its roots, and offers attendees various tours of Berlin.

Exhibitors and attendees tend to be among the most stylish in fashion around. G-star’s runway show is also a highly-anticipated affair.

On opening day, registration was packed with buyers, media, and industry players making their way into the Airport Berlin-Tempelhof to catch the latest exhibitors’ collections, each located in themed areas, including Sport & Street, Street Fashion, Fashion Now, Style Society, Denim Base, Urban Superior Women, Urban Superior Men, and L.O.C.K -Labels of Common Kin. The airport is enormous and allows exhibitors room to showcase their creativity. Unlike many other trade shows, spaces like Sport and Street and Street Fashion also feature open booths, which contributes to the networking aspects of Bread & Butter overall.

Karl-Heinz Muller, the trade show President and owner of the unique store 14 oz. Berlin, opened the show with a press conference. He expressed the excitement and on-going inspiration that his show and team continue to illustrate with cool new concepts and dedication to Bread & Butter. He also emphasized that Bread & Butter would stay in its current location of Berlin for many years to come.

In addition to the kick-off of Bread & Butter Berlin, was the first annual Denim Day, presented by Bread & Butter and Sportswear International. This provided an ideal platform for denim industry experts to gather and discuss the changing state of the denim industry -from tech-talk, to manufacturing and the rising prices of cotton, to trends in youth markets, heritage, and eco-aesthetics including new styles and washing techniques.
