We are sad to report that Andy Irons has passed away this afternoon, November 2, 2010. He was on his way from the Rip Curl Pro Search in Puerto Rico where he pulled-out of the competition due to sickness, and headed back home to Kauai, Hawaii and the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing–the ASP’s final big events of the year.

According to reports, he had been battling dengue fever and did not feel well enough to fly. At his layover in Dallas, Andy checked into a hotel room. He was found in his hotel room later this afternoon.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his wife who is expecting, his friends, and fans. We watched Andy surf many times over the course of the years that we have covered surfing.

As a 3-time ASP World Champ, and 4-time Pipeline Masters Champ, he is a legend to our industry and will be incredibly missed.

Much Love,
