The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, undoubtedly the most popular trio of surfing events in the world, is currently taking place right now on the North Shore of Oahu. And while the surf hasn’t been as epic yet as most would like, what is making waves is the new iPhone app for $.99 on iTunes that delivers live websites, real-time scoring, photos, news, and wave forecasts (from Surfline).

While there are several brands in action sports that have various iPhone apps, this is the first for a live mobile webcast for an action sporting event, and a first for the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) overall.

What’s especially great about this is that with the sport of surfing, other than events like the U.S. Open, many are hosted in rather remote locations which mean that less people get to watch them, and/or have to wait for tele or webcasts. The mobile webcast obviously brings surfing, or at least these 3 main events, into the lives (and hands) of more people, thus boosting the industry and all that comes with it.

Stay tuned for more from the Vans Triple Crown in the next few weeks.
