Project launches new section called Threads and Fins to bring surf culture to the forefront. Brands here include Surfside Supply Co., Strong Boalt, Sol Angeles, Threads for Thoughts.

The Fall fashion trade shows in Las Vegas from August 16-18, 2013 bring with them the fashion industries best, along with several new inspirational destinations that illustrate fresh angles on different genres of fashion. Just as Modern Assembly has given rise to a new platform for brands ranging from streetwear, outdoor, action sports, and denim as seen at Agenda, (Capsule), and Liberty, Magic Market week also has a strong location within its Project Las Vegas show format.

This season, Project has launched Threads and Fins–an authentic surf culture destination curated by surf brand influencer and UNIV co-founder, Tim Swart and sport commentator and avid surfer Sal Masekela. The brands in the Threads and Fins exhibit are meant to highlight the intersection of surf culture with men’s contemporary fashion. Small emerging brands live alongside heritage brands to show the many facets within the surfing community. To further intersect surf culture with men’s fashion, elements of the “surfboard-shaping” process will come to life in a 25-foot mobile RV, inspiring adventure and exemplifying the culture of the selected brands. Notable brands include: Hurley, Hang Ten, Katin USA, Mollusk Surf Shop, Paste and UNIV.

The TENTS @ PROJECT is one of the larger areas of the show, focused on high-end contemporary labels in a beautifully merchandised white landscape.  The TENTS present a strong vision of the American fashion marketplace by bringing together influential brands, retailers, and press outlets in the contemporary community.  New to The TENTS, Hugo Boss, Jason Scott, Theory and Mother Freedom will join Michael Bastian, Public School, Todd Snyder, and Timo Weiland, amongst others. This is also where The EDIT by Tommy Fazio will showcase his top picks of the August 2013 season, and feature 12 custom-designed surfboards designed by Tommy Fazio, Tim Swart and Sal Masekela. Proceeds from the surfboards will be donated to STOKED, the non-profit organization that connects under-privileged youth with action sports culture, promoting personal development, academic achievement, and healthy living.

Other areas to note include SHOP THE FLOOR launched this August, which gives brands the platform of an online showroom to continually communicate with buyers, and an area called Project Grooming which debuts men’s grooming products and steps-up the growing trend of grooming and the modern gentleman with brands such as Baxter of California, Costume National and Recipe for Men.
