Nine Rulaz Line is an amazing apparel collection based out of Yokohama”, Japan, that continues to find new passionate fans in America, the UK, Jamaica and other places where dedicated fans of music inspired design rule direction. Nine Rulaz is unique in that the owners, including DJ Master Simon, are from Mighty Crown Entertainment, an internationally known music group that are the word and soundclash Champs of Japan, having sold-out the 35,000 seats in the Tokyo Dome annually with their soundclash event. They’ve also won 6 champion titles in the UK and even Jamaica, where they were the first non-Jamaicans to win as word champs. Ironically, when placed in a street fashion setting like MAGIC, it’s often only people in the know that realize that Master Simon is in the house, and that the brand called Nine Rulaz, that’s creeping into American and UK youth culture street fashion scenes, is actually created by such heavyweight music afionados of soundclash.

Master Simon talked with Label Networks TV at MAGIC about the direction their collective is headed, not only in the international world of music, but also with Nine Rulaz and their collection of denim and sneakers and new collaboration with Prohibit, another top Japanese brand, and Greedy Genius with sneakers.

“Music is our lifestyle,” explains Simon. “Our inspiration in design and everything we do comes from music, from the cultures of reggae, hip-hop, and R&B. We all wear denim, shoes, and so the collection is a collaboration with music and fashion. They are the ying and yang: Mighty Crown and Nine Rulaz.”

The brand is known for it’s interesting mix of designs such as crossed-up microphones, the lucky number 9, king crowns, reggae and Japanese motifs. “We are based on 3 cultures,” explains Simon about their symbolism and inspiration. “American street culture, Japanese and Asian culture, and music culture. As for the number 9, here in America, the lucky number is 7, but in China its 9 and we have people from China, Japan, Korea, who look to this number like a gambler for good luck. Nine Rulaz means that you may get lucky, and everyone can be a ruler or king one day.”

Nine Rulaz line for Fall 2008 also includes an excellent sneaker collaboration with Greedy Genius and the Japanese brand Prohibit in terms of T-shirt design collabs and denim. One of the only brands to use the exclusive textile of “washi” denim from Japan, Nine Rulaz collection with Prohibit is one of the most unique on the market today.

As for T-shirt designs, a favorite other than the crossed-up mic motifs is the Kimono girl on turntables. The collection is rounded out by accessories such as belts fitted caps and cool collectors’ boxes for the sneakers and denim apparel pieces. Check it out.
